Halloween DIY Round 2!

Here’s what you need:





Ribbon $1.00

Paper plates $2.14

Orange paint $0.97

Yellow paint $0.97

Invisible tape $0.97

Paint brushes $3.97


Total Cost $10.02


1. I painted the rim of the paper plate yellow and painted from the inner rim of the yellow to the middle of the plate orange. But when I painted the center I painted all but the very center of the plate orange. I found that if you want clean lines, you should use a small paint brush to keep the edges of each color clean. Then once you have the borders painted, you can use a bigger brush to cover more surface area. I would also recommend that when you’re painting the rim of the plate(the yellow part) you should paint from the center out, not circularly. The paint looks cleaner and doesn’t bubble or build up too much in one area.

The two plates towards the top of the photo are a part of the first step. The plate towards the bottom is the step after you paint the rim of the paper plate yellow.
This should be the end result. Once you’re done painting. It’s okay if the colors aren’t in perfect circles because you’ll be cutting the plate anyway.

2. First, cut the plate in half. Then cut the half of the plate into three pieces. Cutting the plate into six looks more like candy corn than if you cut the plate into four.

3. Pick as many pieces as you need, it depends on how long you want your banner.

4. Cut your ribbon as long as you want your banner to be.

5. I laid my ribbon I cut flat and placed the triangles on it to arrange how far apart I would like them to be. I then found I needed 5 pieces.

6. I then taped (hot glue would work best but I didn’t have any) the candy corns onto the ribbon according to how I wanted them arranged.

DIY “Boo” Letters

Alrighty, let’s get started! Here are the items you will need!


The letter “B” and two “O” letters. I would also recommend lying down some newspaper so that you don’t get everything all paint. If you read my last post, you can see my header photo for the post is the outlines of the letters from where I painted on the paper.


Any kind of paint brushes (if you want an easier clean up I would recommend sponge brushes).


Any kind of black paint will work but I bought acrylic since it is one of the more permanent paints. It dries quickly and you can also choose between a glossy or a matte finish. I chose a matte finish since it seemed to fit the whole Halloween theme a little better!

  1. So this is a pretty self explanatory DIY. Lay all the letters down on the newspaper you layed out.
  2. Squirt some paint out on the first letter and coat the front and all the sides of the letter with the black paint, making sure there are no spots uncovered(I didn’t paint the back of them, but you could if you really wanted to!).
  3. Let the paint dry.
  4. Then you can hang them up or lean them on a surface for a cute and easy decoration!

Other potential additions:

  • Once the black paint dries you could add small circles in glue and glitter or in a different colored paint.
  • You could paint each letter a different color.
  • You could add washi tape.
  • You could tie orange or purple ribbon onto the upper section of the letter “B.”
  • You could also do this for other holidays as well (with a different word of course).

Halloween Haul!

Hey guys! The more you read my blog, the more you’ll learn about me. One new fact for the day is that I absolutely love Halloween and craft isles. As you may have guessed, I went into the Halloween and craft isles today at Walmart.

Here’s some of the things I bought(:












Yes some of these items don’t seem like they would be Halloween related, but GET READY FOR SOME DIYS AND DECORATING IDEAS!!! How excited are you? I hope pretty excited! I know I am!!!


What are they? defines calisthenics as

[kal-uh s-then-iks]

(used with a plural verb) gymnastic exercises designed to develop physical health and vigor, usually performed with little or no special apparatus.
(used with a singular verb) the art, practice, or a session of such exercises.

What do they do for you?

Calisthenics help to tone and to build muscle by doing exercises that use body weight to help lower body fat. Usually it involves more strength than a cardio workout. Calisthenics can be used to tone and build muscle in almost every part of the body. Coordination and flexibility can also be developed through doing the exercises. Calisthenics are convenient because no equipment is needed and you can do them essentially anywhere.

How much should you do?

You should never do more than you can handle of course, but you can look at different exercises and workouts to help determine if its too easy or too hard for your skill level. That’s how I figured it out. I would find a workout someone already made and would try it out and alter it according to what you felt you needed. Trial and error seemed to work best for me.

How are they working for me?

I have always loved doing calisthenics. I am a firm believer that they work and are beneficial to add into any workout. Sometimes I like to do them before a cardio workout to warm up some and it can also make your cardio workout a little more difficult since you’re already somewhat tired.

One workout that I do involving cardio and calisthenics is alternating the two. I do as follows—Run 1:00 minute on the treadmill. 20 squats. Run 1:00 minute on the treadmill. 10 pushups. Etc. I really love to do this workout. It definitely pushes you to work hard and to keep going. I love to do this workout to shake up my usual routine.

Where can I find some workouts?

I use Pinterest all the time and made my own Pinterest board of all my favorite workouts. I have always loved to do the Blogilates Victorias Secret Abs Workout on youtube as well; I have done it for years. I will probably end up posting a “Workout of the Day” at some point as well.

I am no expert on the subject, everything I know on this subject is from sports, online or from experience. I thought I would post it anyway to get you started!

Update: How has college been going for me?

Lately I’ve been in a bout where I wasn’t exactly thrilled to be at college away from home. At first, I didn’t like it here so I went home and saw my family and my boyfriend came out to visit and I felt a little better. Plus I started to get used to being in college. Now that I’m used to it, something still feels wrong or unhappy about it. I have a routine and I’m pretty well adjusted but I’ve been thinking lately that college away from home may not be for me.

I am a very family and friend oriented person. I believe that where you came from makes up a big piece of who you are. I am just not as happy when I’m not home and accessible to my family and friends. I love the school, the programs are excellent. It’s the distance that’s the problem.

I went home this past weekend for the Columbus Day break and I really didn’t want to go back to school. My parents and my boyfriend know about my thoughts on the topic of school which made it a little easier because I could talk to them about it. Except, home felt too much like home this time around. It took almost all I had to get in the car and come back here.

Everyone keeps telling me they’ll visit more or that they could come get me on the weekends more often. I want to see them of course, but part of me finds it really hard to have to say “See you later” every time someone has to go. Maybe I should just go “cold turkey” and be on my own whether I want to or not (just kidding, after I finished writing that sentence the first thing that popped into my head was no way). I don’t know. The one thing that has been keeping me going is all the people supporting and helping me, my faith in Him and in the fact that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.

Oops, lets get back to my plans going forward. One problem with this possibility of transferring, is that I am currently in an excellent elementary education program, and the schools in the area around home don’t do it justice. Yes I could commute from home to my school, but the drive would be just long enough where I wouldn’t want to do that.

So as of right now, I am thinking of  going back to applying to schools through the Common App for next year. This is just to keep my options open. Plus, I haven’t even been here that long so things could look up. If I did transfer, it would be better to do it for next fall rather than this spring so that I can have a good idea if everything will work out here.

A lot of people struggle their first semester of college, this I know. That’s why I am telling you all this. If you’re feeling home sick or like the school you’re currently going to may not work out, you’re not alone.

I am still going to be a teacher, that I would never question. I want to be a teacher so badly.  This lost feeling I’ve been having may even make me a better teacher in the long run, it could help me to help my future students with something they’re having trouble with. Or even my athletes (I would love to coach a sport!).

This paragraph I am writing after the first part was written. Since I first wrote the beginning of this post, I worked out, ate good food and talked with some people I’ve met in classes. I had a pretty good day today, so maybe things are looking up already! I’m feeling pretty optimistic ever since today went so well, but I thought I would still tell you about my thoughts I had at another point in the adjustment process. I will keep you guys updated!(:

What I Eat in a Day!

Breakfast: A chocolate cookie waffle(which sounds bad for you but it is healthier than I initially thought also and it contains flax seeds) mixed with normal waffle mix  to cut the flavor of the chocolate mix somewhat with about realistically 5 tbs of syrup.

Lunch: A sandwich on wheat bread with pesto, tomato, provalone cheese and shredded lettuce.

Dinner: I wasn’t all that hungry, but I picked at some cheese ravioli. and I had probably about 3/4 cups of edamame(for those of you who have never had it, it’s so good!). I also had an ice cream sundae(yay).

Snacks: Skinny Pop Cheddar Popcorn

So you’re probably thinking that some of the foods I ate today aren’t that healthy. Well maybe they’re not, but I never said that they would be. I may try to live a healthy lifestyle, but it doesn’t mean that I have to restrict my happiness. I love to work out and eat healthy, but it doesn’t mean that I can’t eat a piece of cake or have an ice cream cone. By letting myself indulge, thats my way of satisfying that mentality that says I shouldn’t. You ARE allowed to treat yourself. I have tried to never indulge in foods when I was on a workout kick before, but that workout kick soon ended. Now, I allow myself to indulge and I much more easily stick to my workout and stick to eating relatively healthy. It makes me happier this way. Healthiest isn’t necessarily happiest.

Someone who has really helped me with maintaining this mentality is my very supportive boyfriend and Cambria(breelovesbeauty or breelovesvlogs) on Youtube. Since I don’t really want you checking out my boyfriend(haha) check out Cambria. She is really supportive and thoughtful in every one of her videos. She has some great fitness tips and motivation as well as some other fun videos. Check her out!

A happy mentality is a good mentality.


Today I volunteered at an elementary school. I do this every once in a while through a program at my school. I absolutely love going. If you’re ever needing some time out of your dorm room, go volunteer at an elementary school. You may end up running, climbing on playground equipment, playing tag, playing zombie tag(yes there is a difference), hiding things and then finding them, and learning the general rules of the play ground.It is so much fun.

I cannot wait to be a teacher. Teaching elementary kids is going to be one of the best jobs in the world. When people think of a teacher, people think of the teacher teaching their students what they need to know. But it’s also those students teaching the teacher what they need to know.

Kids have no filters. They will tell you exactly what they’re thinking, when they’re thinking it. Through this lack of a filter I’ve learned a lot of things. I’ve learned I am really old(P.S. for those of you who haven’t read my About page, I’m 18). I’ve learned you are not their friend when you tell them they have to correct their behavior. You’re safe on the play equipment, but when you’re on the wood chips you can be tagged.

Trust me, I do understand that as a teacher things will not always be like it is when I’m volunteering. But as a volunteer, you’re somewhat of a temporary friend and may make a difference. As a teacher, you could make the world of a difference.

I remember the first teacher that first made me start to love to go to school. It’s the first time I remember liking school, so maybe I liked it before too. But anyways, the one teacher that sticks out to me is my first grade teacher. I was scared at first when I found out she’d be my teacher, but by the time first grade came around I would run up and hug her. I remember how much I loved her as a teacher and I want one of my students to remember me the same way.

I still run into this teacher on occasion and I am still shocked that she knows who I am. She ran into me the first time since first grade when I was a sophomore in high school. She came up behind me and said “I know who you are. I would never forget.” That leads me to believe I maybe taught her something like she taught me.

I can’t wait to make that kind of impact.
