An Open Letter to my Family

Hey guys!

I would first like to preface why I decided to write this post. I went back and forth about it wondering if I should just keep it to myself since I guess to some it may seem like bragging. Except my reasoning for writing it is the exact opposite. I want people who are in the same boat as me to see how lucky they are and to be conscious that not everyone is that lucky.

So yes, I am talking about how fortunate I am. But it is in hopes that people in a similar situation see how fortunate they really are.

Dear Mom, Dad and Dillon,

I have always known that I am very fortunate to have you as my family. But as I go further through college I am meeting more and more people. One thing that comes with meeting more people is hearing of their experiences and their family.

I am so lucky to have a both of my parents married and living in the same house. Right now I am trying to think of who in my life has parents with their marriage intact; let me tell you, there is only about fifty percent. Even beyond that, I am so lucky to have parents who actually enjoy spending time with me and Dillon. Some people may have parents with an intact marriage, but that may not necessarily mean that they want to spend time with their children.

I am also very lucky to have a sibling, I realize not everyone has one or wants one–but I don’t know what I would do without you. My life would have been very different. I have learned so much from you whether that was from screaming at each other as kids or making jokes that are literally only funny to us.

This is not to say that we as a family are perfect, but in a lot of ways we are. Everything we go through we go through together. Even when I’m having a bad day and I’m wondering why something is happening the way it is. I always have you guys. I am so lucky for that.

Thank you.

I’m Back

To start off, it is absolutely wonderful to be back. I took some time off from this site to try and figure out what I wanted from life and where I wanted to end up. I have finally figured it out (for the most part). I’m not going to discuss it in this post because lets be realistic, I haven’t written here for probably a year or even two. I did start posting on my YouTube channel that I created. Don’t worry, I will find a way to post it.

When I first made this site I wanted it to be anonymous so that anyone would read and so that anyone could find inspiration. Except now that I am starting up again, I am going to be showing you who I am. By revealing who I am and actually being more open, I think it makes a bigger impact. You can have some name to face information.

I think this change is for the best, so I cannot wait to have you come along on this journey.

Leave a book, take a book.

A few weeks ago I brought my brother to a physical therapy appointment. As we sat down, I noticed a book shelf in the corner that said “Leave a book, take a book.” I loved how simple this was, yet how much “the book switch” isn’t done anymore.

By writing “Leave a book, take a book,” you are encouraging reading. You are encouraging people to try a new book. You are encouraging bringing back paper books. I know in waiting rooms people usually use something to occupy themselves…but lately it seems like all people use to entertain themselves is their phones.

Encourage reading books. It is not a lost art.

You can make a difference. Using something just as simple as a book case and a note can make a change.

Where I’ve been and finding myself…

Hey guys,

So the past few months I have been doing some “searching.” I have had a lot of trouble figuring out who I was with and without friends, in addition to life throwing me for a bit of a loop otherwise.

I felt like I didn’t know who I was without the friends that I’ve always had. Don’t get me wrong… I love them. But this summer I have noticed our new differences. I have learned to accept these differences. I have learned that you can have multiple friends with multiple interests. I’ve learned that new friends can be made.

I also wanted to find who I was again between the transition from college back to home. I feel like a different person in those two places. I was trying to find a happy medium.

In March, my uncle passed away suddenly. I had a lot of trouble finding acceptance for that. I know there is a reason and I know that it was his time. However, this doesn’t mean I’m completely okay with it. He showed up on my TimeHop today. Wow I wasn’t expecting that. But it was a nice surprise.

I guess I came on here to write again. I’ve been doing a lot of personal journal writing lately instead of blogging. I journal with my more personal feelings and events. Now that life has settled down a little, I now feel ready to be back and to try to inspire others as much as I can.

I’m thinking about doing a bit of a re-launch of my blog. But I haven’t entirely decided yet. I’d like to base it off of more acts of kindness, being outdoors and finding yourself. I guess that’s what I’ve been doing all along…but I have a different idea of what I want this to be.

I was talking with my coworker today about how we feel that there is something bigger for us out there. How we aren’t meant to be average. You may think this sounds like we are full of ourselves…and I guess you could say we are in a way. But why shouldn’t you think there is a way for you to make the biggest difference possible? Why shouldn’t you have high expectations for yourself? You deserve that much.

So this was basically a small recap of why I haven’t been blogging. But I’ll be back. Ready to inspire the next person who walks through the blogging door.

Ten tips to being happier.

Take time for yourself and do something you enjoy.

One thing I have been noticing about my own life lately, is that the minimal time to myself is much needed. I love to be social. I am so glad I’m 100,000x more social than I was last semester, but now that I’m social all the time…the space is good. You may not think you need that space but you definitely do. Even if you’re not completely busy, you should still take time to yourself. It will improve your mood, make you feel more relaxed and energized for the next task!

Write.

Writing is one of the best ways to sort out your thoughts. Well… maybe your not a writer. So make sketch journal or just scribble out your frustrations. I know in my personal journal I tape things in, draw, write, make lists, write down goals, etc. I write literally whatever is bothering me, then I close the journal and I feel like everything was left shoved in between those pages.

Work out.

Working out doesn’t have to be doing a marathon or running for an hour. It can be hiking, swimming, or anything you enjoy. Make the workout fun. Working out helps to relieve stress and makes you more energized.

Eat clean.

Try eating clean for a few days, you will definitely feel the difference. Eating clean makes me feel less weighted down and I feel better physically and mentally.

Stay organized.

Clutter causes me to feel stressed. When there is less clutter in my area and everything is organized, I feel so much more calm and ready to get things done!

Be positive.

Change any negative thought you have to a positive one. There is always a positive side in everything you do! It helps if you get someone to remind you and “scold” you when you’re negative. You’ll be amazed at how much more enjoyable life is with a positive mindset.

Socialize.

I didn’t realize how reliant I was on socialization until my first semester in college. As you probably know, I had a lot of trouble. The amount of socialization can vary from person to person. But people are people. People need socialization. It teaches you socialization skills and allows you to express your thoughts and ideas in a verbal manner.

Make or find a space you love to go to.

Even though everyone needs socialization, having your own space is nice too. That space can be your room, somewhere outside, a secret hiding place, your favorite seat at a restaurant, etc. Having your own space can make you feel more in control and relaxed.

Take supplements.

My family is very big on not taking medication unless you absolutely need it. For example: I take natural supplements because of a skin condition (eczema), me being a vegetarian and for overall wellness. I take a multivitamin (for overall wellness and to provide nutrients I may be lacking from not eating meat), turmeric curcumin (for eczema and overall wellness) and fish oil (for overall wellness, eczema and to provide amino acids I lack because of my diet). For those of you who have eczema, try taking fish oil and turmeric curcumin supplements. They have completely changed the severity of my condition. My skin no longer reacts the way it used to ever since taking these two supplements. However keep in mind that I am not a doctor and this was not recommended to me by a doctor. I did lots of research on the subject and did some experimenting. This has been what works best for me. I recommend checking with a parent or doctor before trying any supplements to solve any problems. These supplements have really changed how I feel mentally and physically.

Get sunlight.

Sunlight makes the world of a difference for my mood. The minute the first beautiful and warm day comes out in the Spring my mood instantly improves. The sun makes me feel ready for the day and like I can accomplish anything, especially with a smile on my face.

What makes you happy?

Additional Inspiration!

Sometimes it can be difficult to try and inspire people through words. Inspiration is often something you feel that is sparked by something you see or experience. Because of that, i decided to create a few social media sites to try and get your inspiration-craved minds rolling!

Instagram

  • As of right now, the inspireafeeling Instagram page is a work in progress. Currently there are updates on when posts are posted. However, I think I want to make it more than that. I’d like to post things such as pictures and quotes to inspire people but I don’t want to start until I know exactly how to do it in the right way.

Pinterest

  • As I’m sure most of you know, Pinterest is a great resource for inspiration. I decided that this would be one of the most beneficial sources of social media to use! I repined many pins to try and inspire you in a multitude of areas! I hope you enjoy!

What would you like to see on the inspireafeeling social media sites?

Get inspired!
